There is nothing more soothing or peaceful as spinning! Come twist the day away spinning fibers as light as clouds, creating novelty yarns, or learning other new spinning techniques from our highly qualified staff.

TASTE OF SPINNING
2 Days $150
Saturday, May 5 & Sunday, May 6, 10am–4pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
If you have always wanted to spin, have taught yourself a little, or haven’t spun for a while, this workshop will be just what you need to gain confidence and skill. We will start with a beautiful fleece, learn to card, spin, ply and set the twist. Then we will spin woolen and worsted yarns, some commercially prepared fibers and discuss wheel maintenance.
ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED. PLEASE WEAR OLD CLOTHES.

TEACH YOUR OLD WHEEL SOME NEW TRICKS
1 Session $45
Thursday, May 10, 7–9:30pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
IT IS ALWAYS THE WHEEL, not the spinner (well, maybe not always, but a lot of the time). Sometimes just the smallest adjustment to your wheel can make a world of difference. Because spinning wheels, like people, need a little TLC we will start the session by cleaning and oiling and adjusting our wheels. When the wheels are tuned up and happy we will play some tricks with them to make them more responsive. Sometimes all it takes is a new drive band or an adjustment here or there to let your wheel do things you didn’t know it could do. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. BRING YOUR WHEEL AND ITS PARTS.

FIBER PREPARATION
2 Sessions $75
Thursday, May 24 & 31, 7–9:30pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
Confused about how you should prepare your favorite fleece? It depends. Why do you card some fibers, comb others and what do you do with a flick carder? We will work with combs, flickers and drumcarders and see what happens. Shuttles will provide fiber, but if you want to bring some of your stash to try, please do so. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. FIBERS PROVIDED. BRING YOUR OWN WHEEL.

SPINNING SURI ALPACA
1 Session $40
Thursday, May 31, 1–3pm
Chris Switzer, instructor
We will start by looking at the fleece to decide how to prepare the silklike Suri. What equipment should be used, should locks be cut or spun over the fold? Should the Suri be carded or is prepared roving the best prep? Come experiment the prep and then spin. Chris will bring samples and finished pieces. INTERMEDIATE SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. BRING WHEEL, HAND CARDS AND A NOTEBOOK. FIBERS PROVIDED.

START SPINNING ON A WHEEL
6 Sessions $195
Begins Thursday, June 28, 7–9:30pm
Dye day-Saturday, August 4, 10am–3pm
(No class July 26)
Maggie Casey, instructor
Spider Woman taught the Navajo women to spin with a spindle made of lightning and turquoise. While we can’t provide that kind of equipment, we can continue the tradition. Wool, greasy, clean and commercially processed is our fiber. The last class is an all day natural dye workshop. Women who are pregnant should take the dye class at a later time when they are not pregnant. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED.
PLEASE WEAR OLD CLOTHES.

WILD AND CRAZY YARNS

1 Day $80
Sunday, July 15, 10am–4pm
Debi Dodge, instructor
Inspired by Jacey Boggs…these bumps, beehives, halos, coils, cores and encasements are to die for! OMG! These are all wild wonderful and crazy yarns with the structural integrity you are looking for in your special projects. The samples are the proof of the pudding.
INTERMEDIATE SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. FIBERS PROVIDED. BRING ALL THE NORMAL SPINNING TOOLS (EVERYTHING) AND A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM!

SPIN THE CAMELIDS
1 Session $45
Thursday, July 19, 1–4pm
Chris Switzer, instructor
From Camel to Alpacas to Paco-Vicuña and Llama, we’ll spin these wonderful fibers. You will blend natural colors, plus add silk, mohair or angora for a special look. Yarns and finished projects using handspun will be shown. INTERMEDIATE SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. FIBERS PROVIDED. BRING YOUR WHEEL AND ALL THE PARTS, CARDERS AND SOMETHING YOU’VE MADE FROM YOUR HANDSPUN.

DROP SPINDLE SPINNING
1 Session $45
Thursday, August 9, 7–9:30pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
The “dreaded drop spindle” need not be feared at all. All it takes is a little practice and a sense of humor. Come use our spindles or bring your own. We’ll twist the night away.
ALL LEVELS WELCOME. USE OF SPINDLES AND FIBERS PROVIDED.

HANSEN E SPINNER
1 Session $45
